Poultry vaccination schedule: how a programme is structured
A vaccination schedule is a list of which vaccine is given at which age, by which route. The structure is broadly similar everywhere — early respiratory protection, boosters through the growing period, and a longer programme for long-lived layers — but the specific vaccines and ages must come from a professional who knows the diseases circulating where you farm.
What a schedule is made of

Why broiler and layer programmes differ
A broiler lives about six weeks, so its programme is short and front-loaded: the aim is to carry the bird safely to slaughter age, and there is no point building immunity that peaks after the bird has been sold. A layer lives eighteen months or more and must be protected through an entire production cycle, so its programme runs through rearing with boosters, and is completed before point of lay because vaccinating a flock in production disrupts laying.
- Broiler programmes are typically completed within the first three weeks of life.
- Layer programmes typically run from day one through to about 16–18 weeks, finishing before first egg.
- Free-range and indigenous flocks usually centre on Newcastle disease control, repeated at intervals because birds of mixed ages are constantly being added.
- Breeder flocks have their own, longer programmes because they must also pass maternal antibodies to their chicks.
Why programmes fail

Recording the programme
Record every vaccination on the day it is given: product name, batch number, expiry date, date, age of birds, route, and the number of birds treated.
